They are isolated in various regards: each distribution has a different view on process IDs and the filesystem. They do share the same view on network interfaces. WebbInstall and run an X client on Windows like X410, VcXsrv, or Xming and configure your DISPLAY variable in WSL. Install Ubuntu on WSL if you have not done so already. QEMU runs on both WSL and WSL2 on Windows 10. As I have mentioned here before QEMU is a great way to emulate old hardware to explore vintage operating systems.

WebbI just checked my Win10 1909 install running kernel 4.19.128. The kernel does actually have KVM built-in (shown by running "zcat /proc/config.gz grep KVM"), but running "kvm-ok" shows it's not supported (even after adding "nestedVirtualization=true" to .wslconfig).
