Webb20 nov. 2013 · Pearl millet [ Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] is a C 4 plant having a very high photosynthetic efficiency and dry matter production capacity. It is usually grown under the most adverse agro-climatic conditions where other crops like sorghum and maize fail to produce economic yields. WebbThe best stage to harvest pearl millet is when the plants reach physiological maturity determined by the black spot at the bottom of the grain in the hilar region. When the crop matures, the leaves turn yellowish and present a nearly dried up appearance. The grains are hard and firm.
